| Alright, this thread is very simple.
Simply say some Ideas that you thing are Cliche, or overused, or lame, or rip-offs, and etc.
While I admit there have been times of desperation in which I have gone into this Cliche Box of Ideas, to prevent this I'd also like for people to list there Non-Cliche original Ideas that they've used, or don't mind letting other people use. This way people will always have Ideas to Rp with, and make a smoother, better Rp.
For Ex:
Cliche: A Wandering Young Man/Woman who is possessed/haunted/cursed by a Demon. A Wanderer found unconcious and without memory, and actualy has a tragic past and great power. Most Wanderer Stories Period.
Note: Some Wanderer Storiees can be pulled of well.
Just not Many.
Ideas: Something I just did on a game with Barrens: A Simple Goblin Port Town Akin to Ratchet or Booty Bay, but alot more dangerous in a comical way. Their were mechano-bots who had no direction, and detsructo bots, and etc.
A Troll City-Temple, simailair to Zul'Gurub or Zul'Aman in WoW, but found without their gods and with no religon, slowly falling into Civil War.
And Etc.
I'm not here to make them all, those are examples... and probably not very good ones.
Yeah, Discuss and List.
Thanks. | |

| Oh you totally stole the term 'bag of cliches' from me! ah well, tl;dr, gunna repost other thoughts in a sec. (Update) Well I read it, which is a strain, and I'm going to copy you and be as wordy as possible. I personally believe any cliche can be properly pulled off, as long as the roleplayer is good enough, but in most cases, as you relate to wanderer characters, they just can't be pulled off. Now, this may seem a bit unfair, but I see the typical unforgiving forest elves lot as very cliche. That's why we all know what a Wood Elf is. But, I see almost every primarily elven race as a bit cliche, which is also unfair, because 75% of all humanoid units are elves! However, most elves are bearable and aren't over the top cliche. It's just the ones that come up to you and are like "Hey this is our forest, gtfo!" and you're like "But we needs lumbers Q_Q" and they're like "WAAAAAAR" as for wanderers, it's the ones that DEMAND YOUR ATTENTION because they LACKED THE ATTENTION to make more than two units that get me. You'll be having a pleasant conversation with a minature message robot when BAM! That silly person who is playing as a werewolf smashes the robot for attentions. Now what I see as the best nations are those made by the races with the least, I.e. Murlocs, trolls, ogres. I intentionally leave Furbolgs out, because that almost always ends up being a conversation like this... (Dramatization) "Hi, I'm a strikingly attractive, and totally not overused sylvannas windrunner model, how are you this day" "Grr" "That's quite wordy of you, give me a moment to read all that you have spoken to me." "Rawr" "Again, I can hardly keep up with what you are saying to me! Please slow down." "Grr" (/Dramatization) Since what else I want to say belongs on a different thread, Ill just end it here. Oh, and for those people who like to sound snide and say tl;dr, here's a quicky for you (lol) Cliche: Territorial Wood Elf Wanderers with a chip on their shoulder (a plot driving chip) Not Cliche: Small races making HUGE cities Wandering Traders (Have you ever seen somebody do that? Wander from town to town trading goods?) Just Plain Ridiculous: Players who think it's a good idea to play a race that can't speak outside of noises. Such as growls and roars. | |

| Wow. I see a fair lot of stuff written here by both of you who have just been played by us and some other guys XD I beg to differ. And yea, "Bag of cliches" was totally stolen from dark. :p
Cliche;
Human cities who end up waging war. Not cool. That always happens.
"Omfg were humans" "Omfg were orcs" "Alright! Let's wage war for no apparent reason but just because humans and orcs are supposed to hate each other!" "Good idea!"
You've all seen it.
Not cliche;
As what Gen said, what we did last game was terrific and barely used. Actually, I've never seen it used. EVER. Gen was a Goblin port who's main character was a 'scientist'. Me and dark were inventors. We had an island of our own, provided by Gen's people, to build mechanical war machines for any outcome of war. MANY MANY times has people try to come in our rp. Lik dark said, the random werewolf who just walks in our base expecting us to say something to include him. We ignore him, he says "I WANNA RP T_T".
Please, MAKE SOMETHING THAT HAS THE LEAST BIT SOMETHING TO DO WITH OUR RP! Then some guy builds a random human nation in a matter of minutes right next to us and wages war. *Cliche as said above*.
This thread kicks ass. | |

| I stole NOTHING!
Ok, That's a lie.
You can add that to me titles.
*Places "Blatant Liar" Under "Term Thief"*
Anyway-
Yeah. It was MY Mechano Goblin btw.
I'm just deliverin a message, and WHAMMO! Killed. So I get him back up.
WHAMMO!
Killed again.
This repeated several times.
Seriously people. Wait before interjecting in.
Find the oppurtune Moment.
And Btw.
I know it Kicks Ass.
Hence why I did it. | |

Always with the lumber. Damned lumber. As long as you don't wage war on everything that moves, the human nation is sometimes fine.

| Hooray for the humans!
Oh, and I don't know how 'okay' this is for being a serial roleplayer, but carrying over similar roles? Like I wanna make my Kul'Tiras explorers come to the barrens...right now.

And if you don't understand, it's your fault.
Kul Tiras=LAME! You must be... the Luk Sirat!
Which is Kul and Tiras backwards.

Btw. Indeed. It WAS lame. In fact, so lame Dark didn't go all the way through with it. EPIC PHAIL!! [[Win for me]] And also, to cease with the offtopicness, I will go on topic with some clever non-cliche and useful tricks. Non-cliche; General, Dark and I were gonna make an EPIC rp for an EPIC quest. It would've been epic if Dark wouldn't of had to leave Go see Dark's thread about our epic rp. Anyhow, so we planned it out in general. We planned our main characters, what will they be doing, and who does what {Like, for example, I do the outside of the castle, Gen does the units and Dark does the inside of teh castle}. We DIDN'T plan what happened to the characters to find each other (Because they're from TOTALLY different races), the plot and etc. There must be some improvising aswell to make it funner. We A BIT planned on how our guys' personalities will be and how the rp will be. We planned for it to be a funny, laugh out loud rp . Also, Dark planned a joke but kept it to himself...he just told me to buy bongos... This RP WILL be Epic. I assure you.

| Yes, it shall be.
And now for some other Ideas that I remembered:
Cliche: Damsel in Distress.
Their's always that person who uses an over-used female model[Jaina, Sylvanas, and etc.] and then places themselves in the captured hold of some random fortress or tribe.
And then they expect everyone to flock to their rescure.
No.
Every time I see a Damsel in Distress, unless it's just a side-charecter for a plot of one of the people, and even then must be done right, I'll just leave her there.
Let the Demons/Centaur/Furbolgs/Arcane Thingies do whatever they want to her when no ones looking.
I don't care.
Non-Cliche: Comedy.
I don't care what your doing, be it a travelling possessed young man[Hate you] or a Goblin Tinker Society[^_^], Comedy always helps.
Just because it takes place in Warcraft doesn't mean that comedy has been stripped from every fiber of people's beings. Seriously, use Comedy.
It helps.
Another thing: Side-Races.
This has been said several times in here, and in Dark's guide, but I must press the point.
Just because only four races have actual Unit Builders and buildings and etc, doesn't make them better than any other race.
Frankly, I like to see Murloc, or Furbolg, or even Troll[Forest, Jungle, Dark, etc.] more than I like to see Human and Orc ones.
Mainly cause Main Races always feel the need to clash with one another due to being main races.
So yeah. If you find yourself wanting to make a Base or Nation, try out a Smaller Race, and see what you come up with.
Hints and Tricks: A new thing. You can also give people Hints and Tricks, as what CotK just did. It has it's own section of a post now.
A; Plan. As CotK said, if you have some friends together and are going to Rp, plan a little. Discuss what you want your charecters overall plot to be. Not every little detail, like where they'll go and who they'll meet and what they say.
That's just overthinking, and probably wouldn't work out that way.
Like our basic plot was: "All three of us are Sub-Race people, we meet, and end up going to rescue a princess... With some Laughable Results. On their way they'd go most places around the map to involve most the people the Rp to a Degree."
And whaalla. You got yourself a Plot. And then we did small things like the Races, personalitities, and etc.
Oh, and CotK, He said the joke. You just weren't watching.
If his Murloc is uber small, the Bongo's are a trampoline to him.
Moving on.
Unique-Ness: Try and be Unique with what you do, if at all possible. Make your people/person a little different than the norm. For Ex: A Troll Tribe as I said up there. Most would be religous fanatics of Gods like Zul'Aman or Gurub, or some people play them as "Peaceful Living Tribes." Which doesn't make much sense to me as Trolls are usually very violent and very few tribes are peaceful.
But I digress.
So, take this first stereotype... And take ou the Religon. What would a bunch of Religous Fanatic Trolls do without Gods to worship?
And The Ideas go on.
So just remember to try and spice things up a bit.
This goes for Nations only.
Wanderer's, do not try to be insanely Unique.
You usually Phail at it.
Like, Hardcore. | |

| Epic post.
We're doing some sort of damsel in distress, but we're the people saving her so that doesn't really count as a cliche >_<.
He said the joke? Awww...I missed it.
Wewt I have a section of teh Epic postzerz.
I totally agree with you on the comedy thing. What's better to have fun playing an rp, and litterally laughing out loud about when someone comes up with an outrageous joke? I love when that happens ^_^.

| Well saving the princess isn't cliche in terms of comedy, well at least for an rp. For movies? Pretty cliche.
I think we can get away with saving a princess, I think it actually fits in more, since it's so easily recognizable as an objective of an adventure.
